BRYT BY NATURE – OUR PROGRAMME FOR BEING A BETTER BUSINESS
Sustainable
From documenting our carbon footprint to setting our science-based emissions reduction targets, we’re determined to be totally transparent at every step of our sustainability journey.
Trusted
We’re committed to being a reliable, secure and trusted electricity company, putting our customers at the heart of what we do.
Passionate
We’re passionate about providing our team with a positive, diverse and inclusive place to work, allowing us to offer an excellent service that benefits both our customers and the environment.
PIONEERING
Our innovative products are helping to build a better industry for the businesses that operate within it and the customers that rely on it.
Since Bryt Energy’s inception in 2016, we have always believed that acting sustainably is quite simply the right thing to do. Having set our science-based emissions reduction targets in 2023, this past year has been about empowering our team with the knowledge to enact positive change, particularly through our new Carbon Literacy training programme.

Our Journey so far…

VALIDATED SCIENCE-BASED TARGETS
This past year, we’ve continued to report on our full carbon footprint and progress towards our near-term science-based emissions reduction targets. Our full carbon footprint for 2024 is 3,252 tCO2e and you find the high-level trends on our footprint in our mid-year update, where we highlight the impact that our activities and our value chain have had on our emissions.

CARBON LITERACY
We launched Carbon Literacy training last year, providing our team with the knowledge around climate change to enact positive change within their sphere of influence. So far, over 100 employees have been trained and 60% of our overall team is now Carbon Literate, with our second cohort of employees having begun training. We’re the first renewable electricity supplier to become a Carbon Literate Organisation – accredited Silver!

OUR NEW HOME
In early 2025, we made the move to our new office, to better support our growing team in our current hybrid working world and help reach our future sustainability goals. Sustainability and employee wellbeing were key focuses for us in every step of the process and we’re proud to announce that we have achieved a Silver SKA rating for the design, fit-out and furnishing of our new office.

SUPPORTING THE NET ZERO ENERGY TRANSITION
We’ve continued to offer Battery Storage Optimisation and Demand Side Response (DSR) services to help our customers become ‘good grid citizens’, maximising the value of their electricity supply contracts and supporting the energy system in making the transition to net zero.

ENHANCING CUSTOMER SERVICE
We’re committed to offering the best service possible and are continually looking at ways to improve. After joining the Institute of Customer Service in 2024, an independent professional membership body, we have now begun their accreditation programme, with a new group of Customer Champions to support us on our journey.

EMPLOYEE WELLBEING
We’ve continued to support our EDI (Equality, Diversity and Inclusion) Champions in their strategy to create a healthy, positive and inclusive workplace and, in our latest survey, 86% of our employees said they’re proud to work for our company.

EMPLOYEE DEVELOPMENT
In the first half of 2025, an average of 2.28 training days were completed per employee, which is on track for our annual company training target. 17 employees have also been promoted internally in this time, as they advance their careers with us.

INDUSTRY COLLABORATION
We recently hosted an event with our energy consultant partners on ‘Our Collective Role in Powering a Sustainable Energy Future’, where key industry figures came together to discuss the changing energy landscape, and the considerations and opportunities this may present to businesses.

EVOLVING PRODUCTS
Over the past year, we’ve continued to develop new products that support customers in the changing energy landscape, including working with Statkraft to offer Corporate Power Purchase Agreements.

FIRST ESOS AUDIT
Last year, we completed our first ESOS (Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme) audit to identify energy saving opportunities for our office and business travel.

SUSTAINABLE MARKETING
Our Head of Marketing and Sustainability, Kat Wilton, recently shared insights on the need for integration between sustainability and marketing, and the importance of purpose-led, responsible marketing, to students at the University of Birmingham.

ENABLING A SMARTER GRID
In 2024, we exceeded our industry target for smart meter installations, empowering our customers to take control of their electricity usage as part of the wider transition to a smarter, net zero grid.
what’s next to come…

EMBEDDING SUSTAINABILITY
Employee engagement will remain a core pillar of our approach, and we will continue to embed sustainability into our team. We’ll ensure the themes of Carbon Literacy are built into company training initiatives and induction processes, and will provide ongoing support for employees with their Carbon Literacy actions.

EMBRACING THE ENERGY TRANSITION
We will consider how we can work in additional roles, to offer greater flexibility beyond the wholesale electricity market. We are also exploring developments in the commercial use of flexible consumption, at both national and local levels, to help customers get maximum value from their flexibility and support the grid at the same time.
SCIENCE-BASED TARGETS EXPLAINED
SBTi provides a framework and guidelines for companies to set targets that are in line with the latest climate science and the objectives of the Paris Agreement, which aims to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
We’ve joined over 8,000 companies that have set SBTi targets with clearly defined pathways to reduce emissions, playing our part in tackling climate change.

OUR SBTi TARGETS
- Bryt Energy commits to reduce absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 90% by 2030 from a 2020 base year.
- Bryt Energy also commits to reducing Scope 3 GHG emissions by 52% per MWh of renewable electricity* supplied within the same timeframe.
Our most recent progress towards achieving our SBTi targets is documented and discussed in our Bryt by Nature 2025 mid-year update and our full carbon footprint data from 2020 onwards can be found in the appendix at the back of the report.
CARBON LITERACY
This past year, we launched Carbon Literacy training to empower our team with the knowledge and skills to take climate action. Our sessions covered the science around climate change and the important role the energy sector has to play in achieving net zero.
As of February 2025, we have trained over 100 employees and 60% of our overall team is now Carbon Literate. We are the first renewable electricity supplier to become a Carbon Literate Organisation!
