100% RENEWABLE ELECTRICITY*

From our beginning, we’ve provided British organisations with zero carbon, 100% renewable annually matched electricity contracts*. By harnessing the power of nature, our electricity supply is sourced from Solar, Wind and/or Hydro power.

We chose Solar, Wind and Hydro because they are all zero carbon and 100% renewable* forms of energy, meaning they don’t create any carbon emissions at the point of generation and are naturally replenishing. For a more detailed look into why we have chosen the sources in our fuel mix, including their unique benefits and considerations, read our blog.

What is supplied
through the grid?

As standard in Great Britain, electricity is generally supplied to properties via National Grid’s transmission network, and local distribution network operator’s (DNO) networks – not directly from any specific renewable (or non-renewable) generator. Great Britain uses multiple sources for electricity generation, from renewables, to nuclear to fossil fuels, which means that all sites are provided with electricity from the whole mix of generation sources that the grid is being supplied with at that time, even when you have a renewable electricity contract.

In Great Britain, the National Grid ESO (Electricity System Operator) balances this continuously in real-time to ensure electricity supply is available to meet demand.

HOW WE PURCHASE
CUSTOMERS’ ELECTRICITY

At Bryt Energy we purchase electricity through our parent company, Statkraft. Once a renewable electricity contract* is agreed with us, Statkraft use the British wholesale electricity market to procure the volume of electricity agreed for the duration of your contract.

HOW WE MATCH THIS WITH RENEWABLE GENERATION

To supply customers with our zero carbon, 100% renewable annually matched electricity*, we purchase and manage Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGO) certificates to match your supplied electricity volume, plus the Government’s annual estimated loss factor volume to account for electricity ‘lost’ through the UK’s Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Networks. For every 1 MWh of renewable electricity* produced, a REGO certificate is issued to the generator, which we purchase and manage. This ensures that, although electricity consumed will come from a mix of generation sources on the grid, an equivalent amount to your supplied electricity was generated from Solar, Wind and/or Hydro renewable assets in Great Britain at any time within that given compliance year.

Procuring your REGOS

As standard, whilst the REGO certificate cost to you is agreed as part of your contract, these REGOs are purchased through a separate mechanism to your electricity (unless through a Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (CPPA) or sleeving agreement – a mechanism that brings separately sourced REGOs into an electricity supply contract). REGOs purchased by us are solely owned by Bryt Energy and redeemed by us submitting them to the regulator, Ofgem, in July after each compliance year. This is in order for suppliers to include REGOs within their Fuel Mix Disclosure (FMD) annually, in accordance with electricity suppliers’ standard licence conditions (SLC). These REGOs are held by suppliers and are not transferred to customers.

Sourcing REGOs

We source the majority of our REGO certificates through our parent company, Statkraft, but we may also purchase them elsewhere to ensure we get the best value for our customers. When we purchase REGOs from Statkraft, they can be from Statkraft-owned renewable generation assets, assets with which Statkraft has a power purchase agreement (PPA), or fully independent third-party renewable energy generators.

Specific REGO requirements

Individual specific customer contracts may have slightly differing requirements for REGO certificates and/or reporting, and these can be arranged as part of contract negotiations on a case-by-case basis. Our FMD and any bespoke REGO requirements are audited and verified each year by an independent third party, SE Advisory ServicesSchneider Electric’s global consulting practice.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR
CUSTOMERS’ REPORTING

Our supply products have been audited and verified by an independent third party, SE Advisory Services, Schneider Electric’s global consulting practice. They have certified that our zero carbon, 100% renewable annually matched electricity supply contracts* are backed by Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin certificates (REGOs).

This allows customers supplied with our zero carbon, 100% renewable annually matched electricity* to report their electricity consumption (Scope 2)
as zero carbon, under the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol market-based method. You do not need the REGO certificate codes to be able to report this using this method.

EVIDENCING YOUR SUPPLY

In addition to your contract, our electricity supply products are evidenced through our Bryt Energy renewable contract certificates that we can provide to our customers. This certificate confirms that the customer on contract with us is being supplied with electricity that’s been sourced from zero carbon, 100% renewable* sources – Solar, Wind and/or Hydro – for that annualised contract period.

We also recommend that customers keep our SE Advisory Services Assurance Statement with their Bryt Energy renewable contract certificate to show their supply has been audited and verified as zero carbon and 100% renewable*. Please contact heretohelp@brytenergy.co.uk to receive a Bryt Energy renewable contract certificate.

You can view our verification assurance statement here.

THE ROLE OF REGOS IN REPORTING

Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin certificates (REGOs) were put in place to match and track renewable generation, and this is currently the only official mechanism recognised by DESNZ (Department for Energy Security and Net Zero) in Great Britain for tracking renewable electricity for electricity Suppliers Fuel Mix reporting purposes. Ofgem is the administrator of the REGO scheme for generation in Great Britain on behalf of DESNZ. Purchasing electricity on the British wholesale market and matching this with REGO certificates allows us to demonstrate an equivalent amount of electricity has been generated through renewables at any time within that given compliance year.
