Birmingham, we operate a Hybrid working policy and employees are required to be in the office a minimum of 2 days per week
Hours:
Full time Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours a week

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced and passionate sustainability/ESG candidate who really wants to make a difference in an expanding purpose-led company in the renewable energy sector. Reporting into the Head of Marketing & Sustainability, the successful candidate will be instrumental in advancing our sustainability commitments and understanding the evolving macro landscape to position Bryt Energy as a Sustainable Business Leader.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:

Joining a passionate, unique team within Bryt Energy where sustainability meets marketing and the energy transition, to drive the company’s purpose and vision. The Sustainability team help shape and deliver the strategies that align with Bryt Energy’s environmental, social responsibility, governance (ESG) and long-term economic goals, considering all our stakeholders and sphere of influence. You will be driving collaboration across all department areas to promote and embed sustainability into our operations, ensuring compliance with legislation and industry-leading best practice through insights, to position Bryt Energy as a Sustainable Business Leader.

YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

• Managing the members of the Sustainability team and their workflows, including resource allocation, appraisal review and personal development.

• Development and delivery of sustainability and insight plans to achieve objectives set and aligned with company goals (e.g. SDGs, SBTi, Net Zero etc), overseeing all team projects and deliverables from conception to completion, in line with deadlines and completed to required standards.

• Identifying and managing implementation of new strategies and opportunities to meet our sustainability objectives and understand our stakeholders in the evolving landscape, to keep Bryt Energy at the forefront and a leader in the sustainability/energy transition arena.

• Identifying, delivering and accuracy for performance metrics, sustainability disclosures and compliance with relevant local/national/global audits, regulations and reporting requirements (e.g. Carbon footprint to ISO14064 standard, SECR, GDPR, SBTi and beyond), whilst assessing performance against goals/best practice and optimising/adapting accordingly.

• Evaluating the evolving sustainability, ESG and energy market landscape trends, frameworks, policy, legislation and their impacts across Bryt Energy, and business sectors – making actionable recommendations to support key strategic decisions.

• Internal stakeholder management, education and training to embed sustainability practices across employees, operations, and product development/lifecycle, and being the Sustainability ESG/CSR champion and subject matter expert across the business.

• Managing external sustainability agency projects/relationships and represent the company to build connections with our sphere of influence, including our customers, partners, supply chain, regulators and forums to educate and engage awareness of our initiatives and purpose to achieve company goals.

• Identifying and approving key sustainability messaging/marketing activity across all initiatives and propositions and their impact on Bryt Energy and our customers’ sustainability journeys, focusing on transparency and accuracy with evidence, in line with the ASA/CMA green code guidelines.

• Identify and assess sustainability/market research and insight-related risks and develop mitigation strategies, ensuring effective systems, policy and procedures are in place.

• Living and breathing the Bryt Energy brand culture and values to ensure the team’s projects deliver the company purpose, and ensure consistency, accuracy and excellence across everything we do.

• A passion for sustainability, wanting to make a difference by driving positive change within a business leading the energy transition and eager to solve big open questions.
• Strong organisation and drive with experience and guidance of delivering high-level sustainability/ESG projects.
• Real curiosity for in-depth research and insight with awareness of macro sustainability trends and recommendations to drive new engaging activity.
• A real ambassador for teamwork with the ability to work cross functionally with a positive attitude to collectively achieve organisational goals and objectives.
• Innovative and challenging mind with strong attention to detail.
• A commercial focus. Analytical, with a good handling of complex data sheets with KPIs and measurement.
• A confident and professional manner, able to remain calm under pressure, even when dealing with challenging situations.
• A flexible & committed approach to work with a hunger and real desire to achieve, succeed, develop, and grow.
• A hands on management approach providing strong leadership to define, and implement the organisational strategy but also can work at the ground root level to support and inspire the team.

 

Education and training:

• Bachelor’s, Master’s degree or professional certifications in Sustainable Development, Sustainability, Environmental Sciences, or related field.
• Experience of:

  • Driving and implementing sustainability, ESG/CSR management within an organisation.
  • Sustainability/ESG regulations and reporting frameworks across national/global landscape.
  • Research and insight to support business strategy.
  • Mid-senior management level.
  • Team management/development.

• Renewable energy sector experience/passion desirable.

Abilities and skills:

• Autonomous approach, applying strategic thinking and problem solving in Sustainability.
• Excellent organisational, research, analytical communication and influencing skills.
• Highly competent with data, IT systems and processes.
• Ability to managing multiple stakeholders with different priorities.
• Presentation skills at Board Level and external conferences.
• Capable of working within a fast-paced agile environment.
• Self-starter, able to work to tight deadlines, managing multiple projects whilst being focused on key objectives.
• Ability to relate to people at all levels/backgrounds and develop and maintain effective and credible working relationships.
