Product Manager


Birmingham / Hybrid working approach
Full time Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours a week

We’re looking for a dynamic, experienced Product Manager with a passion for renewable energy and sustainability in a newly created position within the Commercial department. This exciting new role is key for the next growth phase of the business and will be instrumental in supporting the expanding product portfolio and customer value proposition to make Bryt Energy stand out in a fast paced and competitive market. Reporting into the Head of Propositions as part of a new proposition and product team within the business, with potential for the team to grow further in the future.


You will create and deliver innovative products and propositions to market in support of the company’s strategic objectives ensuring we remain at the forefront of renewable and sustainability-focussed developments in the energy market, with a strong focus on developments to support our Energy Transition objectives. You will ensure product concepts are developed into fully rounded, working propositions that work both for us and for customers, and you will support on preparing business cases. You will lead and project manage the product development process, including product definition, commercial & operational impact assessments and requirements gathering. Post implementation of new products, you will monitor and assess performance throughout their lifetime.

As well as engaging with external stakeholders such as Energy Transition partners, you will work closely with the Sales, Marketing and Energy Transition teams, Statkraft stakeholders and the IT/Product delivery team.

An experienced energy expert, you will understand how products work and have some operational knowledge of middle and back office functions. You will have excellent organisational skills and be adept at practical project management.

• Overseeing the development and rapid delivery to market of approved new products, ensuring products are well rounded and liaising with all key stakeholders. Working closely with the Product Delivery Manager at the implementation stage to ensure the concept is realised, customer satisfaction is delivered and operational business needs are met.
• Defining product requirements based on a good understanding of the product concept and key objectives. Creating detailed product specifications, including market positioning, target segmentation, USPs, pricing and product commercials and operational/service requirements.
• Completing impact assessments, requirements gathering and scoping of product development to inform decisions on product feasibility and inform implementation planning.
• Willing to challenge and question assumptions and conclusions, to ensure business decisions and product developments are based on sound rationale.
• Working with the Head of Proposition to produce comprehensive and holistic business cases for new product proposals, acquiring and using appropriate insight and research covering our portfolio, customer needs and the wider industry and market.
• Planning the customer journeys for new products in close collaboration with relevant business teams; Being a champion for the customer experience and perspective, developing an in-depth understanding of their needs and drivers, together with ensuring focus on customers is a critical part of product delivery.
• Engaging with external and internal stakeholders, ensuring good communication flows and understanding their requirements and constraints.
• Equipping business teams with the appropriate level of understanding of our products and propositions.
• Managing a new governance framework which defines and manages the full product and proposition suite (new and existing) over the product lifecycle, incorporating product, customer and market insight and proposition performance reporting.
• Maintaining the product and proposition roadmap from concept all the way through to end-of-life phases and communicating cross-functionally to ensure stakeholders are engaged and informed.
• Being the product and proposition subject matter expert for the wider business, with a detailed understanding of requirements and the features and benefits of any product or proposition, together with a comprehensive view of the commercial risks and benefits for Bryt Energy and the wider Statkraft group.
• Clearly defining objectives and metrics to monitor the success of product integration, and establishing regular reporting for senior management on product performance, realisation of the expected value, trends and insight; assessing success and impact across a holistic range of factors.

Education and Training:

• Previous energy experience is essential (which could be in B2B retail, renewable generation sector, energy transition, energy networks for example).
• Project management experience (a formal qualification would be an advantage but not essential).
• Highly numerate with demonstrable commercial acumen.


Abilities and Skills:

• Experience and knowledge of the UK electricity industry.
• Deep understanding of what a product entails and requires to succeed.
• Excellent and highly effective organisation and prioritisation skills.
• Practical project management skills.
• Experience of working in periods of change with high levels of adaptability.
• Ability to collaborate effectively and gain co-operation from a range of stakeholders.
• Proactive and energetic approach, with a positive attitude and an ability to work well under pressure.
